Driver Software 7907.003 for USB Adapter Cable

The Virtual Com Port drivers (VCP drivers) are required for the KARL DEUTSCH USB adapter cables listed below (from delivery date November 2012). After the driver installation, the USB interface of the PC to which the cable is connected can be accessed as a (virtual) serial interface (COM x), as required by the KARL DEUTSCH programs ICOM and EASYEXPORT, for example.

  • 1657.312 (USB adapter cable for LEPTOSKOP 2042, DEUTROMETER 3873)
  • 1657.313 (USB adapter cable for Pocket-LEPTOSKOP)
  • 1657.314 (USB adapter cable for ECHOMETER 1077)
  • 1657.316 (USB adapter cable for ECHOMETER 1076)

The manual driver installation described here is not always necessary:
With current operating systems, such as Windows 11, the chip used in the USB adapter cable is recognized in most cases by the hardware wizard included in the operating system and is installed automatically when the cable is connected to a USB port on the PC for the first time. This requires Internet access, which the operating system uses to contact Windows Update. The driver should only be installed manually as described below if the automatic installation via the hardware wizard of the operating system is not successful or the PC does not have Internet access.

Installation

Important: The USB adapter cable must not (yet) be plugged in at the start of the driver installation described below.

  • Open the manufacturer’s driver page by clicking on the link https://ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp-drivers/.
  • Scroll down to the section VCP-Drivers >> Currently Supported VCP-Drivers.
  • Search for the download link that matches your operating system. As the program tools from KARL DEUTSCH can only be run on Windows desktop computers, you can focus on the line for Windows desktop.
  • In the Comments column on the right, you will find a link (“setup executable”) to an executable installation file in a zip file (e.g. CDM212364_Setup.exe, the actual numerical specification after CDM indicates the current status of the driver). Double-click on this link to start the download. Open the downloaded file to start the driver installation process.
  • Another link in the “Comments” column opens the “Installation Guides”, which you can use to carry out the installation for your operating system.
  • Older drivers are listed in the (second, lower) table “No Longer Supported”. As a rule, however, you only need the current driver from the upper table.
  • After installation, plug the USB adapter cable into the USB socket provided for the device connection. The interface is now activated using the previously installed drivers.

After successful installation, the item USB Serial Port (COM x) appears in the device manager of the PC under Ports (COM & LPT). x is the number of the virtual serial port, which is then set manually or automatically in the KARL DEUTSCH PC program.
