This type of system is used for the rapid testing of bars in the diameter range from typically 15 mm to 130 mm. The bars are transported linearly through the testing machine (with up to 2 m/s).

The simple and compact mechanics allow very short changeover times (about five minutes) due to simultaneous adjustment of all probe holders. The probes are coupled via water jets (squirters) without wear. The unavoidable mechanical straightness tolerances of the bars (typically 1 mm/m – 2 mm/m) are compensated by the spring-loaded suspension of the probe holders. Therefore, this type of system is optimally suited for testing black bars. The conventional inspection system provides 3 to 15 probes.

The phased array version ECHOGRAPH-STPS-PAUT allows for a 100 % inspection of the bar volume by means of five probes. The probes generate overlapping sector scans with up to 20 shots each. A total of up to 120 parallel inspection channels are used.
